Mario is called to Rogueport by the Princess, who came upon a magical map that supposedly leads to the legendary Crystal Stars. But when he arrives at the seaport town, she's nowhere to be found. The Thousand-Year Door is an adaptation of the video game into a graphic novel. It is not a direct retelling, meaning that certain “gameplay” story mechanics are cut, and other parts are emphasized or expanded upon.
